children这种复数变换被称作二重复数，是一个语言学上的概念，指的是某一个表示复数的词缀逐渐变得不通用时，原本的复数形态下加上新的通用的复数词缀构词，child在古英语里写作cild，后来通用的复数词缀变为-en，于是演变为cildren，再演变为children。
